SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Program Description:
The Social Development (SD) Program provides services to children between the ages of 6-13 (Grades 1-7) who, are designated as requiring Intensive Behavioral Intervention or having Serious Mental Illness (in accordance with the Ministry of Education criteria). A social development teacher and a child or youth care worker support each program, and District Behaviour Specialists serve as consultants to the SD program staff. Students are included in regular classes and have access to additional support in an alternate setting when required. The program is designed as a two-year intervention with a return to their catchment school being the long-term goal.
