Family Accident Insurance
Accidents happen, make sure your student is insured
Cuts and scrapes aren’t too much for the school office to handle, but not every injury or associated medical cost is covered by healthcare plans.
The Surrey School District does not insure expenses for student injuries that happen on school grounds or during extracurricular activities. If a student is injured, parents and guardians are responsible for any costs not covered by MSP or their employer’s healthcare plan.
Student accident insurance plans cost at little as $13 per year, depending on desired coverage. Parents are encouraged to consider purchasing student accident insurance for injury-related costs not covered or limited under MSP or group insurance plans. Injury-related costs not covered by MSP or group insurance plans may include:
- Dental treatment
- Eyewear
- Rental of crutches or wheelchairs
- Splints and casts
- Physiotherapy
- Ambulance transportation
- Private tutoring and counselling
Parents who would like to purchase accident insurance for their child are advised to choose an insurance provider. Several companies offer accident insurance and you must decide which plan suits your family’s individual needs the best.
For your convenience Surrey Schools has made available information on two student accident programs that provide families the opportunity to voluntarily purchase private accident insurance: Insure My Kids and Study Insured Student Accident. The coverage is available for purchase online and both companies provide access to applications, claims forms and full plan information.
